About Jeffry
DVD Instruction

Here you will find schools that Jeffry gives classes or individual workshops on painting or drawing, and the class descriptions below.

Art classes basically depend on enrollment, so if you do not see a class currently running to the left, call one of the schools below and ask if a class is scheduled.  If one is not, ask "Why the heck not???"  Then, if they haven't hung up on you, maybe express interest in taking a class at that location, and if we get enough students, a class can be arranged shortly.

If time is a concern, Jeffry also gives private lessons out of the home for either individual students, or small groups at a reduced individual fee (usually 3 to 6 students).  Times for private lessons are much more flexable and agreed upon by Jeffry and the other students with a 4-class commitment minimum (and you can learn a lot in 4 classes!)

Jeffry also gives 2 to 3 hour individual private lessons at your home depending on your location and schedule with fees below:

At Jeffry's studio

4 - 6 member group: (4) 3-hour lessons, $60 fee for each member.

Indivdual student: (4) 3-hour private lessons, $140

At your home

Individual student: (1) 2-hour lesson, $45

At a school

Times and fees vary.  See "Current Classes", or call the school.

"ADULT BEGINNING PAINTING"

or "ADULT OPEN PAINTING"

This course is an unstructured course allowing students to paint subjects of their choice and is designed for beginning (or advanced) painters working in any opaque (non-transparent) medium such as oils, water-mixable oils, acrylics, tempera, alkyds, etc. Standard oils are highly recommended for beginning students without previous experience. Water-mixable oils are a good second choice. Other mediums are acceptable for those with experience.

These classes will provide students with information needed to paint successful paintings of nearly any subject matter. From the most basic information (fool proof methods for matching a color), to the most advanced techniques, will be available to the student. Subjects may come from photographs, post cards, imagination, other paintings, etc. Additional basic information will be available for new beginners.

Periodic demos will be given on techniques or specific subject matter as the need arises. Classes are designed to be fun and non-competitive with all Individual styles, goals, and levels acceptable. Students without supplies can obtain a basic supply list for around $35 and will make several paintings. Ask for details. Students with supplies should bring what they have and some type of painting support the first class. Note pad and pencils are also helpful to jot down tips!

"ARTIST’S PAINTING CLINIC"

These are special painting clinics where painters of all backgrounds can bring in 1 to 3 unfinished, or unfinished, pieces in need of technical assistance or guidance.  Artworks will first be discussed openly as a group, than private help will be offered.  And, not to worry, all "egos" are checked in at the door and something can always be learned from a painter at any level.  Attendees can also bring in their own supplies if they need assistance on how something is done on their piece - temporarily!

Since learning from other's work can be so valuable, attendees are encouraged to bring in a piece to share with the others, but this is not necessary!  If you are new to painting, or just have an interest in such things, you are more than welcome to simply attend the clinic and listen in with the group.  Much can be learned by evaluating paintings of all styles, subjects, and skill levels.  These are interesting events to say the least!

Most clinics are 1 - 2 hours and fees vary on location and clinic length.  Attendees should be 16 years or older.  Call or visit here for the next clinic.

"SENIOR WORKSHOP"

This course is an unstructured course allowing students to paint subjects of their choice and is designed for beginning to advanced painters working in any painting or drawing medium including: oils, water-mixable oils, acrylics, tempera, watercolor, pastels, pencil, etc.  Standard oils are highly recommended for beginning painting students without previous experience. Water-mixable oils are a good second choice.  Other mediums are acceptable for those with experience.

These classes will provide students with information needed to paint successful paintings of nearly any subject matter.  Classes are designed to be fun and non-competitive with all Individual styles, goals, and levels acceptable.  Students without painting or pastel supplies can obtain basic supplies for around $45 and will make several paintings.  Ask Jeffry or the school for a supply list before the first class.  Students with supplies should bring what they have and some type of painting support the first class.  Note pad and pencils are also helpful to jot down tips!

"INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED PAINTING"

This course is a unstructured course allowing students to paint subjects of their choice, and is designed for the intermediate and advanced painter working in any opaque (non-transparent) paint, such as oils, water-mixable oils, acrylics, tempera, alkyds, etc.

These classes will provide students with tips, techniques, and information beyond what’s covered in most beginning painting classes.  This information makes painting nearly any subject, simple, and enjoyable!  Basic information on new color mixing theories and uses of materials will also be reviewed for those new to Jeffry Krafft’s classes.  Additional information most valuable, but often overlooked in painting classes, will also be available.  This includes tips on using reference photos properly, studio lighting, framing, reproducing, and selling your work, photographing your work, use of mediums and painting supports, etc.

"DRAWING INTRODUCTION"

This course gives students the basic skills and knowledge needed to draw and experiment with various drawing media.  It is designed to be fun and encourages all drawing styles.  However, it will also provide invaluable information on the many drawing tools used by professionals, the secrets to converting images into a 2-D form, and the "right" and "wrong" way to use reference photos.  The information provided here will be most valuable for those interested in taking more advanced drawing and painting courses, as well.

Supplies: Students will need the following graphite pencil set: #6h, #2h, #2b & #6b.  They will also need a soft drawing eraser (Sanford "art gum" eraser, or similar), and a small to medium pencil drawing or sketch pad (approx. 11" x 14" and larger).

"PAINTING SECRETS I & II"

These workshops specialize in giving the student "inside" information in areas not typically covered in most painting workshops. Jeffry's video series from the TV show series includes much of this information.  See the DVD page on this site to order!

In addition to basic and advanced painting techniques, tips will be given on:

  • New color wheel theories and how to "really" mix any color
  • Problem solving techniques
  • How to paint realism from imagination
  • Understanding various lighting conditions
  • Framing and storage of your work
  • Pros and cons of various painting supports
  • Selling or reproducing and sell your work
  • Pros and cons of using reference photography
  • Pros and cons of various studio lighting and setups
  • How the clothes you wear can make painting easier
  • Changing your painting process according to your subject
  • Pros and cons of using various color pallet theories

These are just some of the useful, but often overlooked, topics discussed and highly valuable to beginning and more experienced artists!  Most of the information given can apply to any medium, but any demos will be done in an opaque medium such as oils or acrylics, etc.

The workshops will be divided into two classes and different information will be given at both classes.  Students can attend either class, or both.

Students should bring notepad, pencil.  They can also bring a small sketchbook and any painting supplies they normally work with, if desired. If you’re just starting out, that’s OK, Jeffry will tell you the pros and cons of various paint supplies!
